Navy bursts Alabama’s bubble with Armed Forces Bowl win

Navy achieved one thing mighty Alabama could not on Friday: beat mediocre Oklahoma.

The Midshipmen downed the Sooners, 21-20, within the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, busting the Crimson Tide’s case as a Faculty Soccer Playoff snub.

In spite of everything, any staff that misplaced to the Sooners within the common season — like Alabama — had no enterprise sniffing the CFP.

If school soccer’s highest-paid and most distinguished speaking heads had been to be believed, Alabama was unjustly snubbed for a CFP berth over Indiana (11-2) and SMU (11-3).

Following the 12-team reveal on Dec. 8, ESPN school soccer analyst and former Alabama head coach Nick Saban argued the committee did not weigh Alabama’s power of schedule benefit over SMU closely sufficient.

“If we do not take power of schedule into consideration, is there any profit to scheduling actually good groups sooner or later?” Saban requested, as if Alabama deserved a medal for scheduling South Florida (7-6, sixth in American), Wisconsin (5-7, twelfth in Massive Ten), Western Kentucky (8-6, second in Convention USA) and FCS Mercer (11-3, first in Southern).

Whereas not particularly naming Alabama, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit criticized the committee for having the audacity to issue wins and losses into deciding the 12-team area.

“I hope subsequent yr the committee will not get caught up with what social media and quite a lot of the ‘fringe’ followers get caught up with which is wins,” Herbstreit stated on “SportsCenter.”
